The Aims of ESSC Welfare & Rescue
Emergency Contact Form
The ESSC Welfare and Rescue would recommend the use of our Emergency Contact Form. Please carry one on your person and have an accessible copy at home where it can be easily found. Welfare and Rescue are happy to be included as an emergency contact – Sheila Riding co-ordinator Tel: 07707 179723. It is recommended that you include at least two contacts and please feel free to modify the form to suit your particular needs.
Supporting Shelties in Times of Need
The English Shetland Sheepdog Club recognises its responsibility to protect and support the breed. ESSC Welfare & Rescue offers practical help and reassurance when owners face difficulties. Our goal is to make sure no Sheltie is left without safe care, security, or a future.
Temporary Care
Owners sometimes face illness, hospital stays, or other circumstances that prevent them from caring for their dogs. In these cases, ESSC Welfare & Rescue arranges temporary care. This support allows Shelties to stay safe until their owners can welcome them back home.
Permanent Rehoming
When owners can no longer keep their Sheltie, we step in to help. We take great care to find the right permanent home for every dog. Each Sheltie is matched with a family or individual based on their age, temperament, and specific needs.
Help in Special Circumstances
At times, owners may experience financial hardship or major life changes. At the discretion of the ESSC Committee, we provide assistance in these situations too. Our focus always remains on the welfare of the Sheltie and the wellbeing of their owner.
Confidential and Compassionate Support
We handle every request with complete confidentiality. Owners can trust that we will listen, respect their situation, and act with compassion at every step.
Supporting Health Research
ESSC Welfare & Rescue also funds and supports research into Shetland Sheepdog health. By contributing to veterinary studies, we help protect the future of the breed.
Guidance and Constitution
The service runs under the guidance of the ESSC Committee and follows the rules set out in its constitution.

The Club has recently embarked on a programme to digitise some of our archives and make them available on the web. Club members can find the digital archive by clicking here. You will need a user name and password to log-in which will be provided by the Club Secretary in due course.
